In December 2023, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted Yehia Amin on first-degree stalking as a hate crime, a class C felony. Bragg called the October 2023 attack a "vile antisemitic tirade."

On September 15, 2026, Justice Althea Drysdale sentenced him to 90 days in jail and five years of probation. VIN reported that Amin flashed a victory sign after the sentence.

What happened

On October 18, 2023, Amin, then 28, of Queens, followed a 23-year-old Israeli tourist and four friends wearing kippahs through Times Square. He played what he called "Hamas music" and punched the tourist in the back of the head.

How it shrank

In March 2026, Amin pleaded guilty to third-degree assault as a hate crime, a lower charge. The 90 days was the agreed deal. Glenn Richter of the New York Jewish Community Judicial Watch Group called it a slap on the wrist.

We found no statement from Bragg's office on the plea or the sentence.

What we are checking
